PHO Grand Rounds:

10 years and $5-billion in savings:

The impact of improving smoking, alcohol, diet and physical activity in Ontario

Smoking, unhealthy alcohol consumption, poor diet and physical inactivity play an important role in overall health. In 2014, Dr. Manuel examined the impact of these health behaviours on hospitalization costs in his study 900,000 Days in Hospital.

This webinar features the results of Dr. Manuels recent research on health behaviours, socioeconomic position and health care costs in Canada. This research was the largest study using linked Canadian data. The webinar will also explore the health equity impacts of preventative strategies and saving in health care costs.
